Shuja Bashir founded Bashir Persian Rugs in 1976 when he saw a void in the Canadian carpet market for a showroom dedicated to fine wool and silk carpets with outstanding decorative appeal at reasonable prices. He came to Canada to open a carpet store after having completed his training back home where he was exposed to all the facets of the carpet business from drawing carpet designs, repairing, knot counting, dealing with weavers who brought finished and unwashed carpets for sale to preparing them for presentation for visiting foreign clients. After traveling and living in Germany, Austria, Libya and Italy, he came in 1976 to Montreal and opened his first carpet showroom.
Mr. Bashir's appreciation and understanding of carpets as works of art quickly propelled Bashir Persian Rugs into a preeminent position in the Canadian marketplace.
